Professional Registrations: Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Nursing and Midwifery Registration in the United Kingdom
The nursing and midwifery professions in the United Kingdom are highly valued and essential to the nation’s healthcare system. Nurses and midwives play a pivotal role in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to patients across all settings. Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is mandatory to practise as a nurse or midwife in the UK, ensuring that all professionals meet the required standards of education, competence, and ethical conduct.
The NMC is the regulatory body responsible for maintaining the register of qualified nurses and midwives, setting professional standards, and ensuring that those entering the profession are fit to practise. To become registered, applicants must demonstrate that their qualifications, skills, and experience meet UK standards through a structured application and assessment process..
Apply for NMC Registration: Overseas Qualified Nurses and Midwives

The process involves verifying your qualifications, English language proficiency, and professional standing, followed by competency assessments and identity checks. Our team at Krone Global Consultancy (KGC) provides expert guidance throughout this journey, from eligibility assessment to successful registration.

Top-Up Degrees for Overseas Nurses.
For internationally qualified nurses whose current nursing qualification does not fully meet the academic level required for UK registration, a Top-Up Degree provides an excellent opportunity to upgrade to a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Nursing. These programmes are specifically designed for registered nurses who already hold a diploma or equivalent qualification and wish to gain a UK-recognised degree in a shorter time frame — typically one academic year.
What is a Top-Up Degree? A Top-Up Degree enables qualified nurses to build upon their existing diploma or associate qualification and achieve a full honours degree. The programme focuses on advancing clinical knowledge, leadership, evidence-based practice, and research skills to meet the evolving demands of modern nursing practice.
Important Note: While a top-up degree enhances your academic qualifications, it is important to understand that completion of a top-up programme does not lead directly to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). However, undertaking a top-up degree can significantly strengthen your NMC application and professional profile by demonstrating academic advancement and a strong commitment to continuous professional development.
Typical Entry Requirements
While specific criteria vary by university, applicants are generally expected to provide:
A recognised nursing qualification (e.g. diploma or equivalent)
A current licence or registration as a practising nurse in your home country
Academic transcripts and training records
Proof of English language proficiency (where applicable)
Evidence of clinical practice and professional experience
Benefits of Completing a Top-Up Degree
Enhances academic standing – Achieve a UK-recognised honours degree that aligns with international standards.
Bridges educational gaps – Strengthens theoretical knowledge and clinical reasoning where prior qualifications may fall short of UK equivalence.
Supports career progression – Opens opportunities for postgraduate study, leadership, or education roles within healthcare.
Demonstrates commitment – Shows the NMC and potential employers your dedication to maintaining the highest standards of nursing practice.
